JOB DESCRIPTION: YOUTH PASTOR at St MICHAELS ANGLICAN CHURCH, HENDERSON
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
A: Youth Ministry
1. To oversee the health & growth of youth communities among the Intermediate & Secondary-School aged students of St Michaels
2. To see those communities draw non-church young people to the Lord
3. To create programmes for both Junior (Yr 7-8) & Senior (Yr 9-13) which demonstrate a balance of discipleship, evangelism, social service, social events, and pastoral care.
4. To recruit, support & supervise a team of voluntary youth leaders.
5. To ensure that our youth community remains part of, and contributes to, the larger worshipping community of St Michaels
6. To open the youth community to the full scope of the Kingdom of God through overseas and local mission, and to collaborative activities with other churches and parachurch groups.
B: Secondment to Henderson Intermediate School
To work under the supervision of the Principal for 5 hrs/wk as the school Chaplain. In your role as servant to the school community you will be accountable to the job description they devise.
C: Staff membership
The staff team undertake the day-to-day management of St Michaels. The Youth Pastor will have a key role in contributing to that process through the weekly staff meeting and through frequent informal discussions.
GENERAL QUALITIES REQUIRED;
● A mature Christian commitment & biblical understanding
● A vision for youth ministry
● Great relational qualities
● Proven leadership ability including initiative & personal maturity
● Specifically: Youth Ministry Leadership experience
● A vision to equip others for youth ministry
● Administrative ability; efficiency in working with details
● Dynamic youth teaching abilities
● Either a study background in youth ministry, or a willingness to undertake such study
● a teachable attitude
HOURS OF WORK;
25 hours per week, including Sunday morning, Friday evening, and other times as negotiated.
You will be expected to have one full day off each week, and to only work Saturdays as is necessary.
ACCOUNTABILITY
● You will report to the Senior Pastor Charlie Hughes
● And attend the weekly staff meeting on Tue mornings at St Michaels
● We are required by denominational policy to request a police vet of all personnel working with young people.
REMUNERATION
● All associate staff are paid at the Auckland Diocese Curate rate. For a 25hr/wk position in 2012 this is $25,896 pa.
● Reimbursement allowances are payable for work-related travel, resources, hospitality, & phone expenses.
REVIEW: There will be a review after an initial period of 3 months. Upon confirmation of the appointment annual employment reviews will follow.
